Weather-importance,Elements,Effects Of Weather

Before going into what weather is all about proper, people always mistake weather to climate and climate to weather i will be giving the complete elaboration of these two atmospheric conditions.

Weather is defined as the condition of the lower atmosphere of a place over a short period of time. The weather of a place is always brief and changes regularly.example:the weather of today could be sunny, cloudy, rainy etc.

This can be defined as the average weather conditions of a place over a long period of time. The weather of any given place changes from day day while climate comparatively constant over a long time

Pressure: This consists of a number of mixed gases and has weight which it exerts on the earth surface. It varies from place to place and from time to time. The higher ones goes, the lower the temperature and pressure. Then the instrument used in measuring pressure is called barometer.

Cloud: This particles of water droplets in the upper atmosphere suspended in the air. Because of condensation of water vapour carried by rising air, cloud may give precipitation.Cloud reduces visibility and depletes solar insulation. There are different types of cloud: cumulus, cirrus, status.

Temperature: This simply means heat within the air which indicates how hot or cold a place is and varies from latitude and latitude. The sun is the source of all heat, measured with the aid of thermometer. It influences the actual amount of water vapour present in  the air and also the rate of evaporation and condensation. In the lower atmosphere, temperature decreases with height.

Sunshine: This is the visible part of the solar energy.

Rainfall: Rainfall refers to water droplets from the atmosphere. The instrument used in measuring rainfall is known as Rainguage.

Wind: This is air in motion, from higher pressure belts. It is made up of series of dusts and eddies. The direction in which the wind is moving is been measured with an instrument called wind vane while the wind speed is measured with cup anenometer.

Humidity: This is a measure of the dampness of the atmosphere due to water in the gaseous state and it varies from place to place at different time of the day.We have absolute and relative humidity as the types of humidity. It is measured with an instrument called hygrometer.

The two atmospheric conditions varies from one part of the world to another due to the effects of of the following factors:

  1. Latitude
  2. Altitude
  3. Continentality or distance from the sea
  4. Ocean currents
  5. Planetary winds and pressure belts
  6. Slope
  7. Cloud cover
  8. Natural vegetation and soil

  1. Human settlement: Weather and climate affects the rate at which human beings live in a place.
  2. Health: Humid or damp environment encourage the growth of micro organism which causes diseases.
  3. Environmental hazards: Hazards like soil erosion, rain storm, flood and drought are caused by difference in weather and climate of a place.
  4. Vegetation: Temperature and rainfall are the major determinants of the type of vegetation in an area which could be light or thick.
  5. Clothing
  6. Housing
  7. Agriculture
  8. Soil formation
  9. Communication and Transportation
  10. Occupation
  11. Cultural activities
  12. Health
