LOCATION OF LAGOS
Lagos is located between latitude of 22 degrees north and 6 degrees 42 degrees north of the equator and between longitude 2 degrees 42 degrees east and 3 degrees 42 degrees east of the greenwich meridian.
POSITION OF LAGOS
Lagos is bounded in the west by the Republic of Benin in the east and north by Ogun state and in the south by the Bight of Benin(Atlantic Ocean)
SIZE OF LAGOS
Lagos has a total land area of approximately 3,600km square but actually occupies 0.4 percent of the total area.
RELIEF OR TYPE OF LAND IN LAGOS
Lagos has a lowland area of not more than 20m above the sea-level. Lagos can be divided into three sub-regions of relief features(types or levels of land) namely:
- Low-narrow sandy beaches by the coast
- The sheltered lagoons,creeks and mangrove swamps
- The narrow lowland areas with rivers like ogun,osun etc
DRAINAGE IN LAGOS
Lagos is purely riverine and lagoon with river ogun and several lagoons,creeks and part of the Atlantic Ocean. Lagos has beautiful beaches
CLIMATE IN LAGOS
Lagos is located in equatorial climate belt of Nigeria.It has high temperature of between 27 degrees celcius and 35 degrees celcius with low annual range of temperature. Rainfall is high during june/july and september/october with a short august break. It is because of lagos nearness to the sea,ocean that is why humidity and rainfall is very high.
VEGETATION IN LAGOS
In lagos,there are about three vegetation belts,which are as follows:
- The fresh water swamp
- The rainforest
- The coastal mangrove or the salt water swamp.
