infectious disease

Infectious diseases are those diseases that are caused by bacteria, virus, fungi, internal parasites, external parasites and other organisms (living or non living) which are harmful to the human body. These infectious diseases can spread in many ways and modes.

When it comes to bacteria, like many other organisms that cause infections are very small that you cannot see them without the help of a microscope. It is also the same with viruses, viruses are smaller than bacteria that is why microscope is needed to enlarge them in the laboratory.

Many people always take antibiotics whenever they are hit by a viral disease; this is wrong. Antibiotics like tetracycline, penicillin and the rest are medicines or drugs that are used to cure some illnesses caused by bacteria. Using antibiotics for viral disease can cause harm than good to the individual.

You cannot use antibiotics to treat or cure a disease or illness being caused by virus; such as corona virus, flu, colds, chickenpox, mumps.

TYPES OF ORGANISMS THAT CAUSES THESE ILLNESSES

  • VIRUSES ( smaller than bacteria).
  • BACTERIA (germs or microbes).
  • FUNGUS
  • INTERNAL PARASITES (some living organisms in the body).
  • EXTERNAL PARASITES ( these are the ones found on the body).

LIST OF ILLNESSES, MODE OF SPREAD AND MEDICATIONS

BACTERIA ( MICROBES OR GERMS)

1.  TUBERCULOSIS:

Tuberculosis is being spread through the air and this happens when an infected person coughs into the air.

Medication : Isoniazid, ethambutol, rifampin and pyrazinamide.

2.  TETANUS :

Tetanus can enter into the body through dirty wounds.

Medication : you can use penicillin, metronidazole; these stops the bacterium from duplicating or multiplying.

3.  DIARRHEA :

This is caused and also can be spread through dirty fingers, water and flies.

Medicine : you can use the following drugs to slow or stop diarrhea in the body. They are: loperamide, pepto-bismol, bismuth subsalicylate.

4.  PNEUMONIA :

This disease can be spread through the by coughing into the air.

Medicine : you can use drugs like levofloxacin, clarithromycin, levaquin or ceftriaxone; and also make sure that you drink much water to avoid dehydration.

5.  GONORRHEA, CHLAMYDIA, SYPHILIS :

These diseases can be contracted through unprotected sexual intercourse and as well can be transmitted to another person through the same means.

Medicine : The following drugs can be used to treat these diseases. They are: ceftriaxone, azithromycin or doxycycline.

6  EARACHE :

This can be caused by sore throat and cold.

Medicine : you can use Acetaminophen, ibuprofen and naproxen to treat earache.

7.  SORES WITH PUS :

You can get infected by direct contact ( by touch)

Medicine : You can use Bismuth subsalicylate to treat sores with pus.

VIRUSES ( GERMS SMALLER THAN BACTERIA)

1.  COLD, FLU, MEASLES, MUMPS, CHICKENPOX, INFANTILE PARALYSIS, VIRUS DIARRHEA :

These diseases can be transmitted from someone who is suffering from any of the diseases, through coughing which moves through the air, flies.

Medicine : Aspirin and some other painkillers can be used but you should know that there is no medicine or drug that can fight virus effectively.

2.  RABIES AND WARTS :

You can get or contract rabies when you are being bitten by animals like dogs and there was no proper medication given to you.

Medication : Antibiotics do not help but vaccination can help to prevent some viral infections. But you can use the following medications for rabies ; ketamine, midazolam, amantadine, phenobarbital.

FUNGUS

1.  RINGWORM, ATHLETE FOOT, JOCK ITCH :

These diseases can be gotten from clothing or by touching by someone who is infected

Medicine : sulfur and vinegar ointment can be used for examples are : undecylenic, benzoic, salicylic acid griseofulvin.

INTERNAL PARASITES (HARMFUL ANIMALS LIVING IN THE BODY) :

1.  In the gut worm, amebas, dysentary :

This can be caused by dirtyness or lack of cleanliness, Maybe from the face to the mouth

Medicine : Different specific medicines can be used; like in dysentary, flagyl or metronidazole is used.

2.  In the blood malaria :

This is gotten from mosquito bite.

Medicine : chloroquine or other malaria medines can be used.

EXTERNAL PARASITES (HARMFUL ANIMALS LIVING ON THE BODY)

1.  LICE, FLEAS, BEDBUGS, SCABIES :

You can get infected by having a contact or touch by the infected person or their clothes.

Medicine : you can use lindane or insecticides on the parasites on the body.
